Install a SSL Certificate and Setup the Domain

For WHM version 11.30

When you use this feature, WHM will automatically install your SSL certificate and private key in the correct directories. You may either paste the certificate and key into the fields on the screen or allow WHM to retrieve them.

It is very important that your SSL certificate and private key reside in the correct directories because, if they do not, your server will remain unauthenticated, leaving your visitors at risk.

note Note: You can only install one SSL certificate per IP address for your websites. This means that in order to install an SSL certificate, the account must have a dedicated IP address. If your server only has one IP address, and you do not wish to set up a shared SSL certificate, you cannot use this function and will need to manually configure this process.

To install the certificate and private key:

  1. Fill in the Domain field under the Install a SSL Cert box. You may also click Browse and click the desired domain.
    • When you have indicated a domain, WHM will attempt to fill in the rest of the fields for you.
  2. If WHM did not fill in the certificate field, or you wish to use a different one, paste the desired certificate into the top field.
    • You may also use the Fetch button if you would like WHM to fill in this information for you, even if it did not auto-populate earlier.
    • note Note: The Fetch button will only work if you have filled in the Domain field.
  3. If WHM did not fill in the private key field, or you changed the certificate in the first field, you will need to paste the matching private key into the middle field.
    • You may also use the Fetch button if you would like WHM to fill in this information for you, even if it did not auto-populate earlier.
    • Private keys are paired with their certificates. They must match, or the certificate will not install. If the private key field was auto-populated, and then you change the certificate field on top, you will then need to change the private field key too.
  4. Write the IP address in the IP Address field, and write the user in the User field.
    • If you are installing a shared certificate, write nobody in the User field, and write the shared IP address in the IP Address field.
  5. If the SSL certificate was purchased, you may need to use the CA bundle. You will need to retrieve the CA bundle from the company you purchased the certificate from. While the CA bundle may appear to be one or more certificates, you should paste it together in the Paste the ca bundle here (optional): field at the bottom of the screen.
  6. Click Submit at the top of the screen.
    • You may clear all of the fields below by clicking the Reset button.

If the installation is successful, WHM will display a message stating that the certificate was installed. If it was not successful, WHM will display an error message indicating the problem. More information regarding troubleshooting SSL installation is available.
