The Enkompass Web Site Owner's FAQ

This page contains some frequently asked questions we receive from WSO users.

What is a web domain?

Your web domain is the main domain that is associated with your account, such as exmaple.com.

You can run multiple domains from your WSO account, but the web domain was the domain your administrator used to create your hosting account.

What is a subdomain?

Subdomains are created under a domain associated with your account, and structured as subdomain.exmaple.com.

The subdomain's contents are stored in a directory (folder) inside of its parent domain's public_html directory. Understanding this can be useful if, for example, you want to create a separate area where your visitors can access a specific feature such as a forum, forum.example.com.

What is a parked domain?

The parked domains feature enters a synonym for your domain in the DNS server. This way, you can enter another domain name for your website. This domain name must be registered with a Domain Registry Provider before it will be publicly accessible.

What is an addon domain?

This is a combination of parked and subdomains that allows you to host another unrelated website with your existing WSO account. You can only manage an addon domain through the WSO Interface.

How do I add email accounts?

A default mail account for each website was created by your reseller or administrator. You can use WSO's Email Accounts feature to add additional email accounts and set mailbox quotas.

Which database servers are available to me?

This will depend on how your administrator configured your server. We support both Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL, but your administrator may have chosen to install only 1 of the 2 options. If both SQL database servers are available, each one will have a separate set of icons in the Database section of your WSO Interface.

How can I create a database?

Depending on how your server is configured, you can use either the MSSQL Manager or MySQL Manager feature to create a SQL database. Both of these features will create a blank database with a specified name that you can use with your website or web applications.

If you choose to, you can use the File Manager feature to download the database to your work station and configure the tables and fields with your favorite tool. When you are finished making changes, you can upload the database to the same location in order to use it.

How can I add a database user?

To add a database user, click the New User button inside of the database feature you have chosen to use. When creating a new database user, you will need to set its access privileges. There are different privileges for Microsoft SQL and MySQL.

How can I upload files to my website?

There are 2 ways to upload files to your site. You can use WSO's File Manager feature or FTP.

File Manager: The Web Site Owner interface provides a File Manager which allows you to upload files to your website's folder. Zipping up the files and uploading them is the easiest way to get them into the folder. After a file has been uploaded, it can be unzipped using the File Manager.

FTP: You can use the FTP client of your choosing to connect to your server to upload and download files from your website.

How can I manage certificates?

You can install and manage certificates using the Certificate Wizard in the Web Site Owner Interface.

note Note: A reseller can secure the site for any of his or her users. A Web Site Owner can do this only for his or her web and FTP sites.

Websites

To secure your website with a certificate:

  1. Generate a self-signed certificate using the Certificate Wizard, or order a certificate from a Certificate Authority.
  2. Install the certificate using the Certificate Wizard.
  3. Bind the certificate to the IP address using the Certificate Manager.

FTP sites

You can generate a self-signed certificate and bind it to the FTP site, using WSO's Certificate Manager feature.

Can I create backups of my website?

Website owners can create backups using the Manage User Backups feature.

These backup sets are stored in the your Backup folder. If you wish, you can restore your website from a backup.

note Note: You should take care to download your website's backup to a remote computer. This will ensure that you have a copy of your website in a different location, should you encounter a catastrophic failure.

How can I restart my website?

The website should automatically start when the first request for a page is received. But you can also restart the site and all subdomain sites using the Restart Websites menu item.
