Problems Logging out of an Account

If you are having difficulty switching between cPanel accounts, or logging into and out of your webmail account, your server may be using HTTP authentication.

With HTTP authentication, most web browsers will not actually log out of a session until the browser is closed, regardless of whether you use the Log Out button. This can make it difficult to switch between webmail and cPanel accounts.

cPanel is in no way responsible for, or able to solve, this HTTP authentication issue.

However, if you are a web hosting provider running cPanel 11.25 or later, we recommend switching to cookie-based authentication to resolve the problem. To do so:

  1. Navigate to the WHM Tweak Settings screen.
  2. Set Enable HTTP Authentication to Off.

Cookie-based authentication will allow you and your users to log out using a Log Out button, without having to close the web browser.

If you own a website and do not have access to WHM, submit a request to your hosting provider.
