Copy an Account from Another Server with Account Password

For WHM version 11.32

This feature will attempt to copy an account from a remote server without using the root account. However, this feature is only intended as a last resort. If the remote server does not have a working copy of Perl, have CGI enabled, and have an unmodified cPanel configuration, it is unlikely that the transfer will succeed. You should not attempt to transfer accounts greater than 250 Megabytes using this feature.

To attempt to use the username to transfer an account:

  1. Enter the hostname or IP address in the appropriate field.
  2. Enter the domain name.
    • This is only required if Apache web root protection, for preventing unauthorized access to web files, is enabled on the remote server.
  3. Enter the username in the Username to copy field.
  4. Enter the password in the User’s password field.
  5. Click the checkbox if the account should be given a dedicated IP address when the transfer is complete.
    • Generally, only reseller accounts need dedicated IP addresses.
  6. Click Permit fallback to old system if you wish the system to use the old method of installing CGI scripts on the remote server via FTP, then downloading the site via those scripts. This method will only be used in the event that the preferred method (using the XML API) does not work.
    • PICK Important: Since the fallback method is generally the least reliable, we recommend that you attempt to restore a full backup/cpmove file if the XML API method fails.
  7. Click Copy Account.

note Note: The remote server must be running cPanel version 3.0 or later for this feature to work.

About streaming transfers

When you use WHM to copy an account from another server, the system automatically queries the source server to determine whether streaming is a viable option.

Streaming is a quicker, less resource-intensive method of transferring accounts between cPanel & WHM servers. The streaming process occurs as follows:

  1. The pkgacct utility packages and transfers the account without the /home directory.
  2. During account restoration, the destination server's WHM retrieves the /home directory.
  3. WHM copies the /home directory via a network connection directly from the source server.

To enable streaming transfers:

  • The destination server must be able to connect to the source server via port 2086 (or port 2087 if you prefer to use SSL).
  • The user effecting the transfer must be able to log into the source server's WHM interface with root privileges.
