Exim Configuration Editor

For WHM version 11.30

(Main >> Service Configuration >> Exim Configuration Editor)

This set of features helps configure Exim. Exim is a mail transfer agent included with cPanel. Mail transfer agents are responsible for sending and receiving email messages.

You can:

  • Click the All tab to view all available features.
  • Click an option's question mark link to view its descriptor.
  • Type keywords into the Find box to filter the configuration options.

At the bottom of the screen, you can click Visualize ACLs to see a graphic view of your ACLs. Access control lists (ACLs) determine which mail Exim will and will not transfer.

note Note: If you see 2 asterisks (**) before a configuration option, it means you have not yet set that option. Configuration options shown in italics are unavailable due to the settings of related options.

  • Some Basics about SMTP — Many of the following options involve SMTP. SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. This protocol is the de facto standard for sending and receiving email messages.
  • ACL Options — This set of options limits who is able to send mail to your server, in effect minimizing unwanted bandwidth usage.
  • Access Lists — These options serve to further limit who is able to send mail to your server.
  • Domains and IPs — These options change the IP address from which Exim will send mail.
  • Filters — This set of options prevents users from receiving spam mail and potentially dangerous attachments.
  • Mail — These options allow you to configure specifics regarding outgoing mail.
  • RBLs — Using these options, you can configure your mail server to check incoming mail against the available RBLs and block the incoming messages if the IP or hostname matches an entry.
  • Security — This option allows you to choose whether to use weak SSL/TLS encryption ciphers.
  • SpamAssassin Options — Using this set of options, you can configure SpamAssassin to suit your server's needs.
  • The Advanced Exim Editor — The advanced editor allows you to edit the default configuration of Exim.
  • Reset the Exim Configuration — At any point, you may return to cPanel's default Exim configuration using this feature.
  • Scan Outgoing Mail with SpamAssassin — You can use WHM to configure your mailservers to scan outgoing mail for spam.
