Universal Theme Manager

For WHM version 11.30

A theme in WHM and cPanel is, ultimately, the skeletal frame on which the style, or “skin”, is placed. The theme contains many underlying elements like HTML and CSS. We recommend that you use the x theme for WHM and the x3/x3mail theme for cPanel, as these are the most current themes supported by cPanel.

note Note: The x3mail theme is intended for servers that will only function as mail servers. This theme is not for accounts that will host websites.

Themes

This set of features allows you to manage 4 sets of themes. To access the interfaces for editing these themes, simply click the Manage Themes link corresponding to the type of theme you would like to edit.

  • cPanel — The cPanel interface’s theme that will be seen by users whose websites reside on your server.
    • You should use x3, as it is the most current theme supported by cPanel.
  • Login — The theme which appears on the cPanel login screen.
  • Webmail — The theme for webmail clients included with cPanel.
  • WHM — The WHM interface’s theme that will be seen by you, the web host, and resellers working on your server(s).

The Theme Manager

This feature allows you to view, download, clone, upload, and delete themes. We recommend that you use the x3 theme for cPanel, as it is the most current theme supported by cPanel.

Viewing a snapshot of the theme

To view a snapshot of the theme:

  • Click the magglass.jpg button corresponding to the theme you would like to view.
  • You can scroll through the themes using the > and < buttons on the pop-up screen.

Cloning a theme will create a copy of the theme. This can be useful if you would like to edit a theme safely, without damaging the original.

Cloning a theme

To clone a theme:

  1. Click the Clone (1clone.jpg) icon.
  2. Enter the name for the newly cloned theme on the next page.
  3. Click Submit.

WHM will clone the theme and display it in the Themes table.

Using this interface you are also able to download a theme.

Downloading a theme

To download a theme:

  • Click the Download (1download.jpg) icon.

You are able to delete themes so that old or unused themes do not take up disk space.

Deleting a theme

To delete a theme:

  1. Click the Delete (x.jpg) button.
  2. Confirm that the theme should be deleted by clicking Yes on the following page.
    • If you do not intend to delete the theme, click No.

Uploading and installing a theme

To upload/install new themes:

  1. Under the Install Theme heading, type the name of the theme file, or click Browse.
  2. Select the theme file from your computer.
    • cPanel theme files will have a .cptheme file extension.
    • The .cptheme file is actually a .tar.gz file.
  3. Click Upload.
    • The new theme will appear in the Themes table.

Trying a theme (for WHM themes only)

To try a theme:

  • Click the Activate icon (1activate.jpg) from the WHM Themes list.

The interface will instantly change to the theme you activated.

Addon Themes

Using the Universal Theme Manager, you are also able to install and update addon themes. Addon themes are simply additional themes provided by cPanel or a third party. To begin, click the Manage Addon Themes link at the bottom of the Theme Manager screen for cPanel, Login, Webmail, or WHM.

Installing an addon theme

To install an addon theme:

  1. Click the Install and Keep Updated checkboxes corresponding to the themes you would like to use on your server.
  2. Click Save.

Uninstalling an addon theme

To uninstall an addon theme:

  • Click Uninstall next to the theme you wish to remove.

note Note: cPanel is not responsible for any third-party themes you install.

A note about working with custom themes

When creating your own themes or using themes that are not provided by cPanel, you will need to ensure that the following 2 files exist:

  • /usr/local/cpanel/base/frontend/$theme/passwd/changepass.html
  • /usr/local/cpanel/base/frontend/$theme/passwd/index.html

These files control interfaces that are used whenever a cPanel user's password must be changed. Failing to copy or create these interfaces (files) will prevent users from changing their passwords under the following conditions:

  • You have used the Force Password Change feature to require the user to change the account's password (Main >> Account Functions >> Force Password Change).
  • The user's password is too old, as defined in the Configure Security Policy feature (Main >> Security Center >> Configure Security Policies).
  • The user's password is too weak, as defined in the Configure Security Policy feature (Main >> Security Center >> Configure Security Policies).

note Note: We do not currently support custom theme or localization efforts for WHM.
