For cPanel & WHM 11.48

Which theme should I use?

We recommend that you use the x theme for WHM and the paper_lantern or x3 themes for cPanel and Webmail. For more information about themes, read our Universal Theme Manager documentation (Home >> Themes >> Universal Theme Manager).

How can I find a list of available themes?

You can find a list of available themes in the following interfaces:

Can I change my WHM theme?

Yes. To change your WHM theme, use WHM's Change WHM Theme interface (Home >> Themes >> Change WHM Theme).

Can I modify cPanel themes?

Yes. Modify your reseller's cPanel themes in WHM's Branding interface (Home >> cPanel >> Branding). Resellers can modify their own cPanel themes in cPanel's Branding Editor interface (Home >> Preferences >> Branding Editor).

Important:

  • WHM's Branding interface (Home >> cPanel >> Branding) only allows you to modify the x3 and x3mail themes, as well as any deprecated themes. You cannot brand the Paper Lantern theme from this interface.
  • To customize your Paper Lantern theme, follow the steps in our Branding documentation.

What are addon themes?

Addon themes are additional themes that cPanel or a third party provides.

You can install addon themes in WHM's Universal Theme Manager interface (Home >> Themes >> Universal Theme Manager).

How do I create a custom-branded login theme?

To create a custom-branded login theme, follow the steps in our Tutorial - Create Custom-Branded Login Pages documentation.

Important:

When you create your own themes or use a theme that cPanel does not provide, you must ensure that the following files exist:

  • /usr/local/cpanel/base/frontend/$theme/passwd/changepass.html
  • /usr/local/cpanel/base/frontend/$theme/passwd/index.html

These files control interfaces that the system uses whenever you change a cPanel user's password. If you do not copy or create these interfaces, users cannot change their passwords if the following conditions are true:

  • You used WHM's Force Password Change interface (Home >> Account Functions >> Force Password Change) to require the user to change the account's password.
  • The user's password is too old or too weak, as you defined in WHM's Configure Security Policies interface (Home >> Security Center >> Configure Security Policies).

Note:

We do not support custom themes or localization for WHM.

Can I deploy a custom login theme accross multiple servers?

Yes. To deploy a custom login theme across multiple cPanel & WHM servers, copy the files to your other cPanel & WHM server(s). Then, set each server's login theme in WHM's Tweak Settings interface (Home >> Server Configuration >> Tweak Settings). For more information, read our Advanced Guide to Branding documentation.

Can I delete a branding style?

Yes, you can delete a branding style as long as you uploaded the branding style. You cannot delete any of the styles that ship with cPanel & WHM.

For more information, visit our documentation about cPanel's Branding Editor interface (Home >> Preferences >> Branding Editor).

When I log in to cPanel, why do I see a 404 error that says that it cannot find a theme and the page cannot display?

This error indicates that your cPanel account's theme is not present. To fix this issue, open the /var/cpanel/users/username file, change the theme to the default theme, and save the file.

This action brings up the default theme. If it does not, look in the /usr/local/cpanel/base/frontend/ directory for available themes and change your theme to an available theme.

You can also install new themes with WHM's Change WHM Theme interface (Home >> Themes >> Change WHM Theme).

Can I change the Home and Logout buttons through WHM branding?

No, you must edit the WHM theme to modify buttons.

How do I change the stylesheet for cPanel in WHM?

You can edit a theme's stylesheet in WHM's Universal Theme Manager interface (Home >> Themes >> Universal Theme Manager).

How do I apply a branding style to all of my users' accounts?

To apply a branding style to all of your users' accounts, click your chosen theme's Apply to All Accounts option in cPanel's Branding Editor interface (Home >> Preferences >> Branding Editor).

Can I change the skin back to X3 after I changed it to RVSkin?

Yes, but you must contact RVSkin for instructions on how to use the themes that they distribute. If you are a reseller or server owner, change the account's theme in WHM's Modify an Account interface (Home >> Accounts >> Modify an Account).

How do I customize my cPanel interface with Paper Lantern?

To customize your Paper Lantern theme, follow the steps in our Branding documentation.

To develop a custom Paper Lantern style, follow the steps in Paper Lantern's Tutorial - Create a Custom cPanel Style documentation.
