Overview

If you experience DNS problems, ensure that the server has a list of functional resolvers. Resolvers allow your server to communicate with DNS servers in order to find IP addresses that correspond to domain names.

Add resolvers

If you need to add resolvers to your server, perform the following steps:

  1. Use your preferred text editor to open the /etc/resolv.conf file.
  2. If this file does not contain any resolvers, enter nameserver $IP in the file, where $IP represents the IP address of the resolver.

Note:

You should be able to obtain at least two resolvers from your data center.

Check resolvers

To make sure the resolvers function properly, perform the following steps:

  1. Open a terminal session.
  2. Run the following command, where example.com can represent any domain.

    host example.com
  3. If results are returned to the server, the resolvers are properly configured.
