For cPanel & WHM version 11.50

Overview

If you experience DNS problems, ensure that the server has a list of functional resolvers. Resolvers allow your server to communicate with DNS servers to find IP addresses that correspond to domain names.

Add resolvers

To add resolvers to your server, perform the following steps:

  1. Use a text editor to open the /etc/resolv.conf file.
  2. If this file does not contain any resolvers, enter nameserver IP in the file, where IP represents the IP address of the resolver.

Note:

You should obtain at least two resolvers from your data center.

Check resolvers

To make sure that the resolvers function properly, perform the following steps:

  1. Open a terminal session.
  2. Run the following command, where example.com represents any domain:

    host example.com
  3. If the command returns results to the server, the resolvers are properly configured.
