Last modified: July 1, 2021

Overview

This document provides the steps to create a DigitalOcean® account. You can use this account to create a Droplet™ that contains the cPanel & WHM drive image.

For more information about cPanel & WHM on DigitalOcean servers, read our How To Install cPanel on DigitalOcean documentation.

Create a DigitalOcean account

  1. Navigate to the DigitalOcean website.

  2. Click Sign Up in the top right corner. The Sign Up page will appear.

  3. You can choose a method to use for signing up to DigitalOcean.

    • If you click the Email option, a new interface will appear. Enter your full name, email address, and desired password in the corresponding text boxes.
    • If you click the other options, follow the directions for the method you chose.
  4. Click Continue. An email confirmation page will appear.

    • If an account already exists for your email address, the page will display an error message, and the Log In page will appear.
  5. Check your email account for a confirmation message.

  6. Click the link on that email message. The Billing Info page will appear.

  7. Enter your billing information.

  8. Click Save Card. The Project page will appear.

Enable Two-factor Authentication

We strongly recommend that you use two-factor authentication for enhanced security.

You will need a smartphone and the Google Authenticator app or the ability to receive text messages.

To enable two-factor authentication on your account, perform the following steps:

  1. In the left sidebar, click Settings. The Settings window will appear,

  2. Click the Security tab. The Security settings window will appear.

  3. Click Enable Two-factor Authentication. The Choose an authentication method window will appear.

  4. We recommend that you select the Authenticator app. Then, click Continue. The Connect your app window will display a QR code.

  5. Scan the QR code with your Authenticator app.

  6. The Authenticator app will display a 6 digit code. Enter that code in the Enter authentication code text box and click Submit. The Now, add a backup method window will appear.

  7. Select Backup codes and click Continue.

  8. Click Download as a .txt file. We strongly recommend that you save these codes in a secure location.

DigitalOcean will now require you to enter a 6-digit code to confirm your identity when you sign in.
