Create a DigitalOcean account
Navigate to the DigitalOcean website.
Click Sign Up in the top right corner. The Sign Up page will appear.
You can choose a method to use for signing up to DigitalOcean.
- If you click the Email option, a new interface will appear. Enter your full name, email address, and desired password in the corresponding text boxes.
- If you click the other options, follow the directions for the method you chose.
Click Continue. An email confirmation page will appear.
- If an account already exists for your email address, the page will display an error message, and the Log In page will appear.
Check your email account for a confirmation message.
Click the link on that email message. The Billing Info page will appear.
Enter your billing information.
Click Save Card. The Project page will appear.
Enable Two-factor Authentication
We strongly recommend that you use two-factor authentication for enhanced security.
You will need a smartphone and the Google Authenticator app or the ability to receive text messages.
To enable two-factor authentication on your account, perform the following steps:
In the left sidebar, click Settings. The Settings window will appear,
Click the Security tab. The Security settings window will appear.
Click Enable Two-factor Authentication. The Choose an authentication method window will appear.
We recommend that you select the Authenticator app. Then, click Continue. The Connect your app window will display a QR code.
Scan the QR code with your Authenticator app.
The Authenticator app will display a 6 digit code. Enter that code in the Enter authentication code text box and click Submit. The Now, add a backup method window will appear.
Select Backup codes and click Continue.
Click Download as a .txt file. We strongly recommend that you save these codes in a secure location.
DigitalOcean will now require you to enter a 6-digit code to confirm your identity when you sign in.
