How to Create a DigitalOcean® Account

This document provides the steps to create a DigitalOcean® account. You can use this account to create a Droplet™ that contains the cPanel & WHM drive image.

Create a DigitalOcean account
Navigate to the DigitalOcean website.
Click Sign Up in the top right corner. The Sign Up page will appear.
Choose a method to use for signing up to DigitalOcean.
- If you click the Email option, a new interface will appear. Enter your full name, email address, and desired password in the corresponding text boxes.
- If you click the other options, follow the directions for the method you chose.
Click Continue. An email confirmation page will appear.
- If an account already exists for your email address, the page will display an error message, and the Log In page will appear.
Check your email account for a confirmation message.
Click the link in the email message. The Verify your Identity page will appear.
Enter your billing information. Select the Add a Card option to add a credit card or the Pre-Pay with PayPal option to pay via PayPal®.
Save your billing information. The Project page will appear.
Enable Two-factor Authentication
We strongly recommend that you use two-factor authentication for enhanced security.
You will need a smartphone and an authenticator app, such as Google Authenticator, or the ability to receive text messages.
To enable two-factor authentication on your account, perform the following steps:
In the left sidebar, click Settings. The Settings window will appear.
Click the Update now link next to the warning text regarding a secure sign-in method.
Click Enable Two-factor Authentication. The Choose an authentication method window will appear.
We recommend that you select the Authentication App option. Then, click Next. The Connect your app window will display a QR code.
Scan the QR code with your Authenticator app.
The Authenticator app will display a six-digit code. Enter the code in the 6-character code text box and click Submit. The Add Backup window will appear.
Select Backup codes and click Next.
Click Download as a .txt file, then click Finish.Important:
We strongly recommend that you save these codes in a secure location.
DigitalOcean will now require you to enter a six-digit code to confirm your identity when you sign in.
