Overview

This feature allows you to configure basic options for cPanel & WHM (for example, contact information or nameservers).

Notes:

  • Items that begin with an asterisk (*) in the interface are required
  • Select the Contact Information or Basic Config tabs to view only those sections of options. The interface displays the All tab, which contains all of the options, by default.

Contact Information

This section allows you to configure the following options:

Enter an email address to serve as your contact address if problems occur. The system also uses this address to create the RNAME field in the Start of Authority (SOA) record in the DNS record zone.

Note

If you do not enter an email address, cPanel & WHM sends the following notifications to the root user:

  • Installer notifications.
  • Update (upcp) notifications.
  • New and terminated account notifications.
  • Errors from the check_cpanel_rpms script.
  • Failed service notifications (for example, IMAP or the httpd daemon).

Basic Config

This section allows you to configure the following options:

The IP address (only one address) that will be used for setting up shared IP virtual hosts.

Enter a single IP address to function as the server's shared IP address. All of the accounts on your server that do not require a dedicated IP address may use this IP address.

Note:

If you change this IP address, the change will not affect existing accounts. To change the IP address for existing accounts, use WHM's Change a Site's IP Address interface (Home >> IP Functions >> Change a Site's IP Address).

Enter the location where you wish for new users' home directories to be created.

Select a location in your server's file system to contain all of your cPanel users' home directories, or enter one in the text box.

Note:

We recommend that you use home in the name of the directory. By default, cPanel & WHM checks all directories that match the home directory prefix for available disk space.

/home
Additional home directories matching the following value will also be used for new home directory creations.

Select an additional directory that you wish to use to store your cPanel users' home directories, or enter one in the text box. If you use more than one directory to store cPanel accounts, the directory with the most free space automatically stores new accounts.

This option only accepts one value.

Select a default theme for the cPanel interface.

Select the default theme for the cPanel interface. The menu displays all of the cPanel themes that are available on your server.

Notes:

  • The theme that you select becomes the default theme whenever you create an account, create a package, restore an account, or transfer an account.
  • The system uses the default theme whenever an account's configuration does not specify a theme or uses a theme that does not exist on the server.
  • If you do not select a default cPanel theme, cPanel & WHM uses the system default theme. Currently, the system default theme is x3.

Select the Webmail default theme.

Select the default theme for the Webmail interface from this menu. This menu displays all of the Webmail themes that are available on your server.

Notes:

  • The system uses the default theme whenever an account's configuration does not specify a theme or uses a theme that does not exist on the server.
  • If you do not select a default Webmail theme, cPanel & WHM uses the system default theme. Currently, the system default theme is  x3mail .

The minimum user ID value used when creating new accounts.

Select the minimum user ID (UID) value to use when you create a new account, or enter one in the text box.

Warning:

Do not enter a value that is below 500.

Select a Time To Live (TTL) in seconds for DNS records, or enter one in the text box.

  • Shorter TTL values can cause heavier loads on the nameserver, but are useful for zones that contain records that change frequently. 
  • The range of values in seconds (RFC 2181) is 0 to 2147483647.

Enter the style in which you wish to receive your Apache logs

Select the style in which you wish to view Apache log files. You may select either of the following options:

  • combined — Select this option to cause Apache log files to contain all of a request's information. This includes referers, user agents, and requested files.
  • common — Select this option to cause Apache log files to only contain information about requested files.

Nameservers

This section of the interface allows you to specify nameservers for your server. Enter the nameservers that you wish to use as your primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary nameservers in the appropriate text boxes.

To assign an IP address, click Assign IP address for the appropriate nameserver.

  • The system automatically assigns IP addresses to your nameservers from the existing IP address pool. 
  • If no IP addresses are available, your nameserver will not receive an IP address.

To add an A entry for a nameserver, click Add an A entry for this nameserver, confirm that the IP address is correct in the window that appears, and click Add Entry.

  • A entries allow your nameserver to be resolved into an IP address. 
  • A entries are required in order for your nameservers to work properly.
