How to Reset a cPanel Account Password

Last modified: November 12, 2024

Overview

This process allows a cPanel user to reset their account password. The password reset process sends a security code to the contact email address in cPanel’s Contact Information interface (cPanel » Home » Preferences » Contact Information).

To reset a Subaccount password, read our How to Reset a cPanel Subaccount Password documentation.

Requirements

You can only use this process if you or your hosting provider have enabled the Reset Password for cPanel accounts option in the System section of WHM’s Tweak Settings interface (WHM » Home » Server Configuration » Tweak Settings). You must also set a contact email address in cPanel’s Contact Information interface (cPanel » Home » Preferences » Contact Information) to use this process.

If have not set a contact email address and cannot enable the Reset Password for Subaccounts option, you cannot use this process. Contact your hosting provider for assistance.

Reset your cPanel account password

To reset your cPanel account password, perform the following steps:

  1. Navigate to the following location in your browser, where example.com represents your domain name:

    https://example.com:2083/

  2. Click Reset Password.

  3. Enter your cPanel username in the Username text box and click Reset Password.

  4. Enter your contact email address in the Contact Email Address text box and click Send Security Code.

    Note:
    • To resend the security code, click Send Security Code Again.

    • You must use the same browser session that you used when you initiated the password reset request.

Important:

If you have not set a contact email address, the system displays a fake contact email address when you attempt to reset your password. This helps protect users’ credentials on your account, but you cannot use it to log in.

  1. In the Security Code text box, enter the security code that you received and click Submit.

  2. Enter your password in the New Password text box, confirm your password and click Set Password.

  3. To log in to your account, click Log In.
