Managing Disk Usage

Last modified: 2026 July 24

Overview

Find out what’s using your account’s storage and free up space by reviewing usage by category or locating your largest directories.

To get there, go to the Files hub and select the Disk Usage tab.

Note:

To view the Disk Usage tab, your hosting provider must enable the Disk Usage Viewer feature in WHM’s Feature Manager interface (WHM » Home » Packages » Feature Manager).

Find out what’s using your storage

To spot categories that are using more storage than you’d expect, the Usage by Category section breaks your account down into the following categories:

Icon Category Description
Files in Home Directory Files and configurations in your home directory.
Files in Hidden Subdirectories Application settings and deleted items in dot-prefixed folders, such as .cpanel or .trash.
Databases MySQL® or PostgreSQL® database tables.
Mailing Lists Configured mailing list archives.
Email Emails, attachments, and spam folders.
Website Files Code, assets, and media for your live websites, usually inside your public_html folder.
Logs Web server traffic, visitor history, and error records.
Temporary Files Short-term session files and caches.
Other Anything outside these standard directories.

Once you find the category using the most space, review it directly. For example, clear old email attachments or delete temporary files you no longer need.

Clear storage in large directories

The Largest Directories section ranks folders by total storage size in descending order. You can click any non-hidden folder to open it in the File Manager tab. Then, delete or compress files to free storage space.
