Deploy a Website with Node.js
Last modified: 2026 August 20
Overview
Node.js™ is an open-source server environment that runs JavaScript for web applications. For more information about Node.js, visit the Node.js website.
Use Meridian’s Websites () hub to deploy an existing Node.js app to your cPanel account. This could be an app that you wrote yourself or one that an AI agent built for you.
When you deploy an app, Meridian builds and installs it onto a new subdomain with an HTTPS website, then keeps the app process running for you. You can deploy your Node.js app from a public or private Git™ repository, an uploaded ZIP file from your local computer, or an MCP connection that lets an AI agent deploy the app for you.
- Node.js only appears if your hosting provider enables it.
- Each cPanel account can have up to four apps at a time. If you reach the limit, you must delete an app before you deploy another one.
Deploying a Node.js app
To deploy a Node.js app, perform the following steps:
- Click Add Website.
- Select Create a subdomain.
- Click Continue.
- Enter the subdomain that the app will use.
Important:
After you deploy, you cannot rename the app’s subdomain.
- Click Continue.
- Select Node.js.
- Click Continue.
- Click Launch My Website.
- Select the source for your app’s code:
Git repository
Git lets you easily redeploy or roll back the latest changes to your app. For more information, read our Guide to Git documentation.
To deploy from a Git repository, perform the following steps:
- Select Git repository.
- In the Repository URL text box, enter the HTTPS clone URL of a public repository (for example,
https://example.com/user/my-app.git). - Click Continue.
Upload a ZIP fileDeploy from a ZIP file for a static Node.js app that you do not plan to change.
To deploy from a ZIP file, perform the following steps:
- Select Upload a ZIP file.
- Drag your app’s
.ziparchive onto the upload area, or click Browse Files to select the file from your computer. - Click Continue.
Deploy via WebPros MCPWebPros MCP lets an AI agent, such as Claude Code, connect to your cPanel account and deploy an app for you.
To deploy via MCP, perform the following steps:
-
Select Deploy via WebPros MCP.
-
If you haven’t yet linked your WebPros account, click Link WebPros Account and complete the browser prompts. For more information, read our Connect to MCP documentation.
-
Click Download mcp.json to download the connection configuration, add it to your AI client, and confirm the connection.
-
Ask the agent to deploy your app. For example, enter the following prompt:
Using the webpros-mcp connector, deploy the Node.js app in this project to my cPanel account and give me the live HTTPS URL once it's reachable.
- Click Continue.
- Verify or edit the Website Name for your app’s URL.
- Optionally, expand the Advanced section to select the Node.js version, review the detected Package manager, and add any Environment variables your app reads at runtime.
- Click Deploy.
Meridian installs your app’s dependencies, deploys the app, and starts it. After Meridian deploys the app, you can manage it in the Websites hub.
Managing your Node.js app
After you deploy an app, you can manage it from the Websites hub. Click Manage next to the app’s website to open its detailed view.
Controlling your app’s process
To control the app’s running process, click Start, Stop, or Restart. Or, click Redeploy to rebuild and restart the app after you push new code to a Git repository. You can also click Redeploy to recover an app that stopped or failed to deploy.
- Start, Stop, and Restart appear for apps that run a server process.
- An app that just serves static files only shows Redeploy.
Viewing logs or changing settings
Once you have deployed your app, you can view its logs or change its settings.
Use the App Logs tab to get a snapshot of the app’s most recent log output. Click Download to save the log to your computer, or click Refresh to load newer entries.
Use the App Env tab to add, edit, or remove environment variables. Click Add variable to add a new key and value, or click Reveal values to show hidden values. Then, click Save & Restart to apply your changes.
Use the App configuration tab to change the app’s Node.js version, review its name and package manager, or delete the app.
Deleting a Node.js app
To delete an app, perform the following steps:
- Select the App configuration tab.
- Click Delete app.
- Enter the app’s name.
- Click Delete app again to confirm.
When you delete an app, Meridian stops its process and removes the app and its environment variables. Meridian does not remove the domain.
You cannot undo deleting an app.
