Note:

Your hosting provider can enable or disable this interface in WHM's Feature Manager interface (WHM >> Home >> Packages >> Feature Manager).

Overview

Use the SSL/TLS Wizard interface to purchase and automatically install SSL certificates for domains on your account. This interface guides you through selecting domains, choosing a certificate type, and completing your purchase through the cPanel Store. You can also track pending certificates from your SSL provider.

  • Before you get started, review the Before you begin section below for important information and purchase prerequisites.
  • Use the Simple interface (default) to purchase certificates for all domains on your account at once, including wildcard certificates.
  • Use the Advanced interface to purchase certificates organized by website (virtual host).
Note:

The system can show this interface’s contents as a standalone interface (cPanel » Home » Security » SSL/TLS Wizard) or as a tab in the unified SSL/TLS Certificates interface (cPanel » Home » Security » SSL/TLS Certificates). To change how this interface displays, hosting providers can update the value of the unified_interface setting in the /var/cpanel/panel.ini file.

Before you begin

Before you purchase an SSL certificate, make certain that you understand the following information:

cPanelID

You must either have an existing cPanelID or create one in order to purchase certificates from the cPanel Store. Your cPanelID is the username and password combination for the cPanel Store, the cPanel Tickets system, and our Manage2 billing system.

If you do not have a cPanelID already, you can create one by clicking Create Account instead of entering cPanelID credentials.

Note:

If your hosting provider has enabled AutoSSL with Let’s Encrypt™ as the provider, you can install free Domain Validated (DV) certificates without a cPanelID. Contact your hosting provider to confirm whether this option is available.

Eligible domains

You cannot purchase certificates for domains that:

OV and EV certificates

Organization Validated (OV) and Extended Validation (EV) certificates require between three and thirty days to issue. Your CA will email you validation instructions; complete them as soon as possible to avoid delays.

Linked mail nodes

If you are securing a linked mail node, ensure that your cPanel & WHM nodes can manage the authoritative DNS server.

Important:

Linked mail nodes must use DNS Domain Control Validation (DCV).

Purchase certificates (Simple)

The default Simple interface combines all domains on your account into a single list. It automatically determines the number and arrangement of certificates that you need to secure the domains that you select.

To purchase certificates for domains on your account using the Simple interface, perform the following steps:

  1. In the list of domains, select the checkbox for each domain that you want to secure and then click Done.
    Note:
    • Selecting a wildcard certificate (*) automatically selects all domains that the wildcard will cover.
    • After you select a domain, your server runs a Domain Control Validation (DCV) check:
      • Gray — DCV check not yet complete.
      • Green — DCV check passed.
      • Red — DCV check failed.
    • Certificates that you purchase through the cPanel Store automatically include each domain’s corresponding www. subdomain if that subdomain passes a DCV check.
  2. Click Continue.
  3. Select a certificate from the list. The available certificates depend on the providers your hosting provider has enabled in the cPanel Market.
  4. Review and resolve any issues that the interface identifies. To make changes, click the green edit icon next to the relevant section.
    Important:
    • Red warnings are critical, and you must resolve them before you can proceed. After you resolve all critical issues, the interface displays your domain and certificate selections for confirmation.
    • Yellow alerts are issues that we recommend resolving.
  5. For EV or OV certificates, enter your organization information when the new tab appears:
    • Use the address text boxes to enter your organization’s physical or mailing address.
    • Use the where incorporated (JOI) text boxes to enter your company’s location.
  6. Click Check Out to proceed to the cPanel Store and log in with your cPanelID.
  7. Review your shopping cart.
  8. Click Pay Now to complete the purchase, or click Cancel Transaction to cancel.

After the cPanel Store processes your purchase, your browser will return you to this interface. Click View Pending Certificates to monitor your order.

  • The cPanel Store automatically emails a copy of the certificate to the account’s email address.
  • If the cPanel Store does not redirect you automatically, you can install the certificate manually. For more information, read our SSL/TLS documentation.

Purchase certificates (Advanced)

The Advanced interface organizes your account’s domains, subdomains, and aliased domains by website (virtual host). cPanel’s Apache configuration only allows one virtual host’s domains per certificate. For example, because the system treats an addon domain as a subdomain with its own website, it requires its own certificate.

Note:

You cannot purchase a wildcard certificate through the Advanced interface. To purchase wildcard certificates, use the Simple interface.

To purchase certificates from the Advanced interface, perform the following steps:

  1. To open the Advanced interface, click Create Advanced (No Wildcard) from the Simple interface.
  2. In each website list, select the checkbox next to each domain you want to add to that website’s certificate, and then click Continue.
    Note:
    • Select the checkbox at the top of a website list to add all of its domains to the certificate.
  3. Select a certificate for each website. The available certificates depend on the providers your hosting provider has enabled in the cPanel Market.
  4. For EV or OV certificates, enter your organization information when the new tab appears:
    • Use the address text boxes to enter your organization’s physical or mailing address.
    • Use the where incorporated (JOI) text boxes to enter your company’s location.
  5. Click Add to Cart to add the website’s certificate to your shopping cart. Repeat steps 2–5 for each additional website that you want to secure.

Pending Certificates

The Pending Certificates section lists all of the SSL certificates that you have purchased from the cPanel Store. The system automatically polls the certificate provider to check whether each certificate is ready. Refresh the page to see the most current results.

When a certificate is ready, the system downloads and automatically installs it on the website.

  • To manually check the pending certificate queue, click Check Pending Certificates.
  • To show or hide the details of a certificate, click Show Details or Hide Details.
  • To cancel a purchase, click Cancel and confirm that you wish to cancel the transaction.
  • To contact the cPanel Market provider about a certificate order, click Get Help With This Order.

Status messages

The interface may display the following status messages:

Status Description
CSR Status Whether the server has finished the certificate signing requests (CSR). The server submits a CSR to the Certificate Authority (CA) to start the validation process.
DCV Status Whether the server has finished the DCV check. This often completes automatically when you select a domain.
Free DV Up Status Whether the server has installed a temporary Domain Validated (DV) certificate. This secures the domain during OV or EV certificate validation.
EV Click-Through Status A list of items for either you or the CA to complete. The CA cannot issue the EV certificate until all items are complete. For more information, read Sectigo’s What is required for validation? documentation.
OV Callback Status Whether the CA has verified the organization’s validity via a phone call.
OV Status A list of items for either you or the CA to complete. The CA cannot issue the OV certificate until all items are complete.
Validation Status Whether the validation process is complete.
Note:

If a URL to expedite the validation process exists, the interface displays it in the EV Click-Through Status or OV Callback Status row.
