Using the AI Assistant
Last modified: 2026 July 27
Overview
The AI Assistant is an embedded chat panel in the Meridian theme. It allows you to ask questions about your cPanel account in plain language and get answers directly in the interface. Instead of clicking through documentation or filing a support ticket for simple questions, you can ask the assistant and get a response without leaving the interface you’re in.
- If your hosting provider has not enabled the AI Assistant for your account, the chat panel does not appear. If you expect the assistant but don’t see it, contact your hosting provider.
- By default, the assistant answers questions and looks up information about your account. If your hosting provider allows it, the assistant can also complete some tasks for you, such as creating an email account. It always asks you to approve a change before it makes it.
Getting started with the AI Assistant
You open the AI Assistant from the floating Ask AI button in the bottom-right corner. When the assistant opens, it greets you and names the interface you’re currently in. For example, on the Dashboard, it displays: You’re on the Dashboard. Ask me anything about your cPanel account. It also offers a few suggested prompts to get you started, such as:
- What domains do I have?
- Show my email accounts
- How much disk space am I using?
- What databases do I have?
The greeting and suggested prompts change based on where you are in cPanel, so they stay relevant to your current task. For example, on the Email hub you might see How do I set up an email forwarder?, on the Databases hub How do I add a database user?, and on the Websites hub How do I set up a redirect?
To ask a question, type it into the text box in plain language and send it. Because every conversation includes context about the interface you’re on and any domain you have selected, you can ask questions like “Is this domain set up correctly?” without stating which domain you mean.
Each answer includes a thumbs-up and thumbs-down icon that you can use to rate the response. To start over, click Clear in the chat panel header to reset the conversation.
The AI chat panel persists across sessions. If you close it, it stays closed until you reopen it. If you leave it open, it remains open the next time you sign in.
Types of requests you can make
The AI Assistant helps with several kinds of requests:
| Request Type | What It Does | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Explain | Explains a feature or concept. |
|
| Guide | Guides you through how to complete a task. |
|
| Diagnose | Looks up read-only details about your account and explains what it finds. |
|
| Act | Makes a change for you, after you approve it. Available only when your hosting provider allows the assistant to make changes. |
|
To diagnose issues, the assistant can read details about your account, including your domains, disk quota, email accounts, FTP accounts, databases, SSL status, and AutoSSL error log.
What the AI Assistant can and can’t do
The AI Assistant always answers questions and looks up information about your account. It can explain how a feature works, walk you through a task step by step, and report on the current state of your account.
Your hosting provider decides whether the assistant can also make changes for you. When this capability is on, the assistant can complete certain low-risk tasks on your behalf, such as creating an email account. For example, you can ask it to Create an email account for [email protected], and it sets up the account after you approve the change. When it’s off, the assistant still answers questions and looks things up, but it cannot change anything.
Before the assistant makes a change, it shows you an Approval required card that names the action and what it affects. Click Approve to let it continue, or Deny to cancel. If you deny, the assistant does not make the change, and it points you to the documentation so you can do it yourself. The assistant never makes a change without your approval.
The assistant will not:
- Make a change without your approval.
- Perform actions that cannot be undone.
- Fix complex, multi-step problems, such as a site outage or a security cleanup. It gives you guidance for these instead.
- Act as the WHM administrator assistant, which is a separate tool for your hosting provider.
- Write code for you or replace your hosting provider’s support.
Privacy and data handling
The AI Assistant uses context about your session and information about your account. Keep the following in mind about your data:
- No personally identifying information goes to analytics.
- Meridian may log conversations for quality and support purposes.
- Each conversation includes context about the interface you’re in and any domain you have selected.
- The assistant stays within your own account. It cannot see or change other users’ accounts or your server’s settings.
- When your hosting provider allows the assistant to make changes, it acts only after you approve each change.
