AI Assistant Data Handling
Last modified: 2026 November 5
Overview
The cPanel AI Assistant is a chat panel in the Meridian theme that answers your users’ questions about their cPanel accounts. Your cPanel license fee currently includes the cost of using the AI Assistant.
This document explains how WebPros handles your users’ data. It also covers what the AI Assistant sends to its AI model provider and the controls you have.
For steps to enable or disable the AI Assistant, read our How to Manage the AI Assistant documentation. For more information on what your users see, read our Using the AI Assistant documentation.
How the AI Assistant handles data
When a user sends a message to the AI Assistant, it sends the request to a relay service that sits between cPanel and the AI model. Then, the relay service sends the request to the AI model, which generates a response. The AI Assistant returns this response as a text reply in the chat panel and can suggest an action that affects the user’s account. It cannot perform the action until the user explicitly approves it.
- Each request includes the data and context that the AI Assistant needs to interact with the user and to carry out the requested actions.
- The relay service itself does not keep the user request, but WebPros monitors the input and output of the AI Assistant. For details, read the Monitoring data for improving the service section.
Safeguards for actions
When the AI Assistant proposes an action, the user sees an approval card that shows the full command name and every argument. The user approves or denies the action. The following safeguards apply:
- If an action uses cPanel’s UAPI, the AI Assistant uses the user’s logged-in session to make the call. The AI Assistant cannot work outside the logged-in session.
- The AI model never receives the user’s credentials.
How WebPros stores your users’ data
WebPros stores some data about AI Assistant conversations, and cPanel stores a transcript of each conversation on your server.
Monitoring data for improving the service
WebPros uses its own monitoring tools to record the input and output of the AI Assistant. We use this data to improve the AI Assistant service.
WebPros stores AI Assistant monitoring data on its own servers in Zurich, Switzerland. Only authorized users and administrators can access the data, and WebPros does not back it up.
Conversation transcripts on your server
cPanel saves a transcript of each AI Assistant conversation on the server, in the user’s ~/.cpanel/ai_sessions/ directory. The root user and the cPanel user can read these files and use them as an audit record.
Each conversation has its own JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) file, named <chat_id>.json. The cPanel account owns each file, and the file mode is 0600.
Each transcript file contains the following information:
- The time of the last update.
- The last page the user was on.
- The user’s questions.
- The full conversation, including the assistant’s tool calls and their results.
The following example shows the structure of a transcript file:

Security usage statistics
WebPros’ security team keeps anonymized usage statistics for its internal API keys, such as key IDs and usage counts. These statistics do not include conversation content. Only the security team can access them.
AI model provider
The AI model is configured not to use AI Assistant data to train its models. The provider’s standard terms and retention settings apply to the AI Assistant data that reaches its servers.
WebPros may change the AI model that runs on the AI Assistant between releases.
Control and delete AI Assistant data
You can turn the AI Assistant off for your users, and you can ask WebPros to delete a user’s data.
Turn off the AI Assistant
To turn off the AI Assistant for your users, disable the AI Assistant feature in WHM’s Feature Manager interface (WHM » Home » Packages » Feature Manager). For steps, read our How to Manage the AI Assistant documentation.
Delete a user’s AI Assistant data
As the server administrator, you can delete a user’s AI Assistant data on your server yourself. To do this, delete the files in the user’s ~/.cpanel/ai_sessions/ directory.
To delete data that WebPros stores, submit a support ticket to WebPros Account Support in one of the following ways:
- Submit a request with the WebPros Support ticket form.
- If you cannot sign in to the form, email [email protected].
